Superintendent Presents Proposed FY2011 Budget

Reduced funding, increased student enrollment equal $79 million gap for FY2011. Dr. Steven L. Walts, Superintendent of Schools, presented his proposed budget for next year at the Feb. 3 School Board meeting. Read more.

Ms. Whitman achieves National Board Certification!

On Tuesday, January 26, 2010, Dr. Walt's was jointed by the school board and the superintendent's officers to honor and recognize Ms. Whitman along with the 16 other teachers who attained the rigorous certification of National Board Certification.  Ms. Whitman joins her ESOL colleague, Mrs. Melissa Dembele, as the only two secondary ESOL teachers who are National Board Certified in Prince William County Schools.  NBC is the highest professional achievement an educator can attain.  It requires video evidence, extensive written portfolios and an exam.  Potomac is very proud to have these two ESOL teachers as part of our family.

Potomac Science Teachers Awarded AFCEA Mini-Grants!

Congratulations to PotomacSenior High School’s Science teachers, Lesley Johnson and Kurt Kight, who were awarded the Science Tools Grant from AFCEA.  Ms. Johnson and Mr. Kight submitted 3 mini-grants, one each for Earth Science, Biology and Oceanography. 

           The funds from the Science Tools Grant will be used for enrichment and extension  laboratory activities for science students through the use of technology.

Online Course Requests for 2010 - 2011

Course recommendations for the school year 2010 -2011 will be completed online using the Edulink “Course Request” feature beginning in February.  Teachers will provide recommendations on February 4th and 5th, parents and students will provide inputs beginning on February 6th through February 11th and beginning February 12th, counselors will begin meeting with students to finalize the process.

 

Parents and Students will need a School Fusion / Edulink account in order to participate in the Online Course Request process.  If a parent does not have an account, they must visit the PSHS Attendance Office to obtain a “pass code” that will allow registration and access to School Fusion / Edulink.  The activation of the account in Edulink will take 48 hours after initial registration.

FAFSA Workshops!

The University of Mary Washington will be offering two financial aid workshops for high school seniors and their parents. These workshops will explain the details of the financial aid process and assist in filling out the online application. 

Students are not obligated to apply to UMW to attend, but registration for each event is required.
