Nurses' Corner



Its’ that time of year again where flu season is upon us and the H1N1 flu is accompanying it. Influenza is a viral illness and is also known as the flu.
The flu begins suddenly and may become severe. 
 
Symptoms of the flu: Weakness
                            Fatigue
                                    Muscle aches
                                Headache
                          Chills
                               Sneezing
                                  Runny nose
                                                    Fever (101-102 degrees)
These and other symptoms such as cough and sore throat go along with H1N1 viral flu.
 
Symptoms of flu may last from 5 to 7 days.
 
Home Treatments:
Rest
             Increase fluids
      Take acetaminophen or ibuprofen for fever, head and muscle aches
              Call your doctor
You must be fever free for 24 hours without medication before coming back to school
                                                                                                                                      
 
Prevention: 
Get flu shot
    Wash hands frequently
                     Avoid touching your nose, eyes and mouth
                     Keep resistance up by getting: Plenty of rest
                                                                  Good diet
                                                                     Regular exercise
